EXP3: FINAL SUBMISSION

EXP3:THE BRIDGE

MASH UP

My own theory:
Imange I am the Dean of School of Architecture, and in order to approach to the purpose to this assignment (THE BRIDGE), my building should connect the building which have relationship to the School of Architecture. Therefore, I hvae my own theoy: The shape of natural elements can be used to shape the structural supports for an architecture. And every part is visible to make people be personally on the scene as vivid as possible.

18 SKETCH PERSPECTIVES

36 TEXTURES

The additional words are DRIFT, FLUID and STRETCH. All of them can used to describe the element in natural environment, which approach to my theory.

Chosen textures:
Stretch
Fluid
Drift

2 MOVING ELEMENTS

  • Two curve walls can move around the centre in different angles to define a space. The outer wall is a bit larger than the inner one.
general idea of the moving element

In this case, I used one pair of walls to define one small space that can be a private study area for students. When two or more pair of walls are arranged to define a large space, this area can be a meeting room for a group of a student. Besides, on the top of the larger space, there will be a small comptuer lab on the higher level. A staircase will lead people up to the lab.

  •  The shape of the ceilingin the balcony is like a tree that respect to my theory. The 'tree branch' can span or stretch which give  the lovely shadow. It can also shelter from some sunshine. And this is use to be the supproting structure.

DRAFT MODEL IMAGES

The chosen plan

 Developed of plan

Draft

Lumion images

The draft model connect to the Square House and Round House, the purpose for this connection is make it easy for students to transfer through these two building easily.

DEVELOPED MODEL IMAGES

The developed model has changed the site and the relationship to the surrounding buildings. This model only connect to the Square House. Because the model is School of Architecture and the Square House serve the architecture students mostly. The connection between them increase the convenience.
The structure of the model is hierarchical structure and it looks like some stones stack together. This structure contain the idea of using natural element to shape the structural supports, which support my theory.

EXPERIMENT TWO: 'THE SPACE BETWEEN' FINAL SUBMISSION

THE SPACE BETWEEN

The 18 Sketch Axonometrics

The 3 PARALLEL PROJECTIONS

The 36 Custom Textures

The Two Concepts

  • Marc Fornes: Play of light and shadow to create ever-changing ephemeral space.
  • Oscar Niemeyer: The promenade towards/throughout the architecture as a human experience of space.
  • Electroliquid Aggregation: The interaction of the light and shadow creating the dynamic human experience of space.

Concept 1: The light in space changes with the construction of the building. In Marc's previous works, most of his design use the different effect of light to create ever-changing ephemeral. In my light rail station, the top shelter has some circular opening(with glass cover), which make it  become hollow and produce the access of the sun light. And the supporting columns also have plenty of holes that can produce same effect. These light and shadow combine can create some interesting pattern in space.

Concept2: Human experience was considered for the site of the station. The station is along the Anzac Pde because the light rail always go with the common traffic. Alought the station is on the passageway, it still have clear space for the people who will not waiting for the rail way. They can still keep going straight or make a turn. The station will not dtsturb a lot.

Theme
Sustainability
As for sustainability, skylight make natural daylighting down onto the ground of the station. For the material used, the seating is made of renewable wood (bamboo). The top of the roof is cover with curved solar which can supply some power for the station.

Chosen Texture

light
This texture with light hatch as background have been places to the border of the screen (provides rail info and time), and the color is light brown. This can attract people to focus the screen.
medium
The geometric blocks of this texture have been places on the direction of normal passageway, it is black and white which gives the effect like light and shadow. It texture is quite different to the ground of the station, so it also lead people who don't take the light rail to cross the station.
dark
The curve lines form this texture have been places on the four sides of the station roof, people can see this strong lines in the distance because the most of station is in light color.
